"I never thought this would happen to me!"

Most believe they were "okay to drive" when they were stopped by the police. We use a lot of excuses to convince ourselves we are okay. . even when we are not. And it can be difficult to gage how drunk you really are.

Just what does it take to be considered legally intoxicated? In most states the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) required to be considered under the influence is .10, and in many states it is now .08.

Roll your cursor (Do not "Click") over the map to find what the legal BAC limit is in your state.

"You Want How Much?"

Not only is it humiliating and embarrassing to get a DUI, it's expensive! Those lucky enough not to have injured or killed anyone, or to have caused property damage, still pay a substantial price. Court fines, lost time from work or school, lawyers' fees, intervention classes, insurance rate hikes . . . it seems once you get a DUI ticket you're paying many people for a very long time. The average first time DUI offender has to pay out more than $5000 by the time it's over. Think of all the other things you could do with that much money.

Check out the following tally to get an idea of all the things that you would have to pay if you got a DUI.

You can print out this graphic and tape it to your dashboard if you'd like, so that you might be reminded of what it can cost to get behind the wheel after drinking even just once!
